When you think of the civil rights movement in the 1960s, many names may come to mind. Does Rustin Bayard come to mind? If he doesn’t, he should. He was the trusted advisor to Martin Luther King. He even organized the march on Washington. He was brilliant with his messaging. Despite his accomplishments he wasn’t received well by his community due to his open sexuality. He eventually parted ways with Martin, but kept his fight for social justice going. He helped fought to end apartheid. He was posthumously awarded the metal of freedom for his service. Rustin Bayard we cant and won’t ever forget you.
